Deepening Reflective Listening
A Two day workshop for coaches and other helpers, by Richard Bolstad
Prerequisite: Open entry but recommended at least 2 days of Transforming Communication. This course is not currently scheduled.
Reflective listening is the most thoroughly researched communication skill there is, and yet new coaches are frequently reluctant to use it because they feel inept or don’t think it will be “powerful enough” to help their client. In this training we will explore how to create the internal attitude that enables it to work, and show you some powerful distinctions about what makes truly great reflecting.
- You’ll learn the difference between initial reflective listening that builds rapport and resonates with the client’s dilemma, and advanced reflective listening that challenges and explores the limits of their model of the world, and reframes what has happened so they can create solutions that make sense to them.
- You’ll learn how to know which type of reflecting is appropriate for which comment.
- You’ll get a sense of how to integrate educational and planning processes with reflective listening.
- You’ll learn how to reflect in ways that concretise and focus the client’s story, as well as ways that expand their frame of reference to see the wider meaning of what they are doing and feeling.
- You’ll learn how to touch people’s hearts and inspire commitment with reflective listening.
